Salsa Queen, a Utah-based producer of fresh Mexican salsas and dips, recently announced plans to launch four new products this month. This new rollout of flavors aims to provide a taste of Mexican cuisine inspired by the founder’s roots.
Salsa Queen’s founder, SalsaQueen Zapata, grew up in Monterrey, Mexico, before immigrating to the United States at age 17. She launched the company in 2014 to support her seven children as a single mother. Her first child tragically passed away from leukemia at just 19 months old.
The brand’s logo features the iconic Mexican sugar skull to honor his memory. These skulls play an integral role in the Day of the Dead festivities that celebrate loved ones who have died.
“Remembering the family we’ve lost brings us joy at Salsa Queen. Our new dips and salsas continue that tradition of honoring my heritage,” said Zapata.
After Six Years, New Flavors Arrive
Salsa Queen expanded its distribution from 80 to over 1000 stores nationwide in just a few years. Their retail partners requested new flavors, prompting dedicated research and development.
After two years and nearly 50 recipe trials, Salsa Queen introduces four new offerings aimed to add variety to American palates.
“We didn’t want to just copy other brands. We wanted to create products that are distinct and unique,” she said.
The new additions include a variety of Mexico-inspired dips and a Mexican restaurant-style salsa with flavors of lime and added heat.
Introducing the Dips: Bringing Street Food Home
The four new dips and salsa flavors draw inspiration from popular Mexican street foods, allowing home cooks to bring these flavors to their own kitchens. They include:
- Creamy Spicy Pickle Dip – This unique fusion blends Mexico’s zesty flavors with the American tradition of pickle relish, offering a tangy snack for dipping or spreading.
- Creamy Chili Lemon Dip – Inspired by street vendors in Mexico who serve grilled corn with spicy crema, cheese, and lime, Salsa Queen’s dip seeks to capture those flavors in a creamy blend perfect for corn chips.
- Creamy Mexican Chimichurri Dip – Salsa Queen’s version of chimichurri includes ancho chile for a bold twist on the traditional recipe, making it a flavorful addition to any meal.
- La Chingona Salsa – Named for its bold bite, this salsa combines lime juice for tartness to balance a slow-building heat.
A Commitment to Quality Ingredients
Salsa Queen’s emphasis on quality aims to deliver flavorful dips and salsas with attention to detail. Zapata carefully oversees each recipe and maintains high standards.
“I spent over two years refining these recipes. I make sure every flavor aligns with what we want to deliver,” she said.
She also avoids using preservatives, additives, or thickeners in their small-batch creations. Only natural, fresh ingredients are used, similar to homemade salsas and dips. “We use real ingredients that our fans could use in their own kitchens,” remarked Zapata.
Salsa Queen’s mission is to bring families together through shared meals and meaningful food experiences, reflecting Mexican culinary traditions. These new products aim to showcase how simple, quality ingredients can enhance everyday meals.
