Drenda Thomas Richards, a renowned spiritual teacher and subconscious mind expert, is gearing up for the highly anticipated relaunch of her podcast, “Taboo Talks,” this fall. Known for her no-BS approach to personal and spiritual growth, Drenda’s podcast promises to delve into topics that society and the church often shy away from, providing a platform for open and honest discussions.
The Journey to “Taboo Talks”
Drenda’s career has been marked by a dedication to helping others, whether through her roles in law enforcement or ministry. “I was always helping people, but my understanding and tools at that time were limited,” she reflects. “Once I understood the power of the subconscious, everything changed for me. I knew how to help people uncover and release the sabotaging behaviors.”
Her journey has not been without challenges. “Like most people, there are the loops that play in your mind every time you attempt something new: you’re gonna make a fool of yourself, what will people say or think. You just have to do it anyway if you think it could impact someone’s life for the better,” she advises.
What sets Drenda apart in her industry is her unique blend of expertise and personal experience. As a certified hypnotist, Reiki Master, and intuitive healer, she combines faith and intuitive practices to help individuals release limiting beliefs and achieve a life filled with peace, purpose, and prosperity. Growing up as a conservative evangelical Christian and the daughter of a preacher, she has since moved away from dogma and high-control religion, bringing a fresh perspective to her work.
Career Highlights and Impact
Drenda’s book, “Dare to Remember: Uncover Who You Were Before the BS,” launched in December 2023 as a #1 Bestseller on Amazon in two categories: Personal Transformation & Spirituality and Motivational Growth & Spirituality. The positive responses to her work have been overwhelming, with many women thanking her for speaking up and sharing her insights.
Looking ahead, Drenda envisions expanding her impact even further. “Ultimately, I will offer a wellness retreat in an exotic location where I provide a holistic approach to transformation with coaching, yoga, spiritual guidance, and nutrition,” she shares. She emphasizes that this future vision includes one of her favorite pastimes: pickleball—complete with professional instructors, creating a unique and comprehensive retreat experience.
The Relaunch of “Taboo Talks”
The upcoming relaunch of “Taboo Talks,” in September will continue to push boundaries and explore taboo topics. The podcast, available on all podcasting platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts, aims to provide insights from various people and industries, discussing subjects that society and the church typically avoid. From non-traditional ways to heal cancer and remembrance photos that give life to stillborns, to drag queen pastors and Christian strippers, “Taboo Talks” will cover a wide range of compelling and often controversial topics.
“The intent is to educate on various topics and help people overcome any guilt or shame they may be experiencing from things in their past,” Drenda explains. By addressing issues such as religious trauma, hypnosis, and the intersection of religion and personal beliefs, “Taboo Talks” seeks to empower listeners to break free from limiting narratives and embrace their true selves.
Addressing Double Standards
One notable issue that Drenda is passionate about is the double standards women face in society. Recently, she was outraged by an opinion piece from Newsweek columnist John Mac Ghlionn, who questioned Taylor Swift’s suitability as a role model due to her being unmarried and childless. “It’s 2024, not 1954,” Drenda asserts. “The idea that a woman’s worth or her ability to be a role model is tied to her marital status or motherhood is outdated and offensive.”
Drenda highlights the disparity in how men and women are judged differently. “Men like George Clooney were celebrated for their bachelor lifestyles, while Harry Styles and Brad Pitt are not condemned for dating multiple women. This double standard is pervasive and harmful,” she notes. Drenda’s advocacy extends to defending women’s autonomy and challenging societal norms that seek to control women’s choices.
Join the Conversation
As Drenda prepares to relaunch “Taboo Talks,” she invites listeners to join the conversation and challenge their perspectives. “The power lies in your vote, your voice, and your choice,” she emphasizes. Through her podcast and other platforms, Drenda continues to champion the cause of women’s rights and equality, striving to create a world where women can freely make their own choices without judgment or restriction.
