Meet Joe Post—a guy who knows houses inside and out. Joe’s not just your everyday Realtor®. Over a decade of construction work, he’s climbed scaffolding, handled blueprints, and built homes from the ground up. Now, he’s putting that knowledge to work, from Clairemont, in Central San Diego, to the North San Diego County real estate markets, helping people buy and sell the homes they love. And trust me, if you’re looking for a Realtor® who does more than just put a sign in your yard, Joe’s your guy.
But let’s rewind a little to see how Joe got here. Like many, Joe didn’t start his career thinking he’d become a real estate pro. He was working his way up in the construction world, starting from the ground floor (literally) and ending up as an assistant superintendent for a prominent builder in San Diego. Things were looking good—until San Diego started to run out of buildable land, and the building boom slowed to a crawl. It was time for a change.
Then came the lightbulb moment. His future former wife (yes, it happens) was working in lending, and Joe started attending her business events. There, he saw something that clicked—people in real estate and lending seemed happy. They dressed sharply, seemed successful, and had an air of confidence. After a decade of hard hats and drywall, Joe thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
So, he went to the local junior college to obtain his real estate license. It was a smart move. “If you can make it in real estate,” Joe figured, “you’ve got a hedge against inflation.” And he wasn’t wrong. Joe passed the Broker exam in June of 2005, got his start as a residential loan officer at a small brokerage, moved into a wholesale role as a Wholesale Account Executive at a mortgage lender, and—after a few years—jumped to full-time real estate sales. “It was the logical evolution of my career,” Joe says.
And what an evolution it’s been. Joe isn’t just any Realtor®. He’s the guy who knows how to build, finance, buy, and sell a home. In other words, he’s the Realtor® who can tell if an inspector’s cutting corners or if a lender is handing you a raw deal. He’s built a network of trusted contractors, home decor specialists, and lenders, all part of his secret sauce to deliver top-notch service to his clients.
The Southern California real estate market isn’t exactly a walk in the park these days. Inventory is tight, and interest rates have people stuck in what Joe calls “golden handcuffs”—they’re benefiting from low rates but feel trapped by them. But Joe sees this challenge as an opportunity. And this is where his expertise shines.
When Joe goes on a listing appointment, he doesn’t think of it as just showing up to pitch himself as your Realtor®. Nope, he’s interviewing for the job of selling your home. And in his mind, there’s only one star in the room—the house. Joe’s all about making your home the star of the show and netting you, his client, the most money possible. Whether it’s a cozy three-bedroom bungalow or a sprawling estate, he listens, looks, and figures out the right approach to make your house pop in the marketplace.
Speaking of pop, Joe’s big on the details. He doesn’t just throw any old pictures up on the MLS or social media. He invests in professional photography, and let’s just say the man is picky about lighting. High noon? Forget it. “It washes out the colors and doesn’t let the landscape or interior lighting shine,” he says. Sunset, though? That’s where the magic happens. “It makes the house pop!” Joe’s also strategic about how he markets homes—sometimes it’s a full-page ad in a real estate magazine, other times it’s direct connections with relocation departments at major companies (something a lot of Realtor®s miss).
But what sets Joe apart is his commitment to the people he works with. “I treat people better than I expect to be treated,” he says, and that’s not just a line. Joe’s built his career on respect and trust in an industry that sometimes feels a bit like the Wild West. Most of his business comes from referrals and repeat clients—a sign that he’s doing something right.
Beyond the houses, Joe’s a forward-thinker regarding the future of real estate. Sure, Zillow has changed the game, and online listings are now a staple of the industry, but Joe doesn’t see Realtor®s disappearing anytime soon. Why? Buying or selling a house is probably most people’s biggest financial decision. And let’s face it—things can go wrong. From unrecorded easements to potential fraud, a real estate deal can get complicated in a million ways. That’s why Joe believes good real estate agents, agents that act professionally, aren’t going anywhere. People want—and need—a professional to navigate the tricky stuff.
Joe thinks the barrier to entry in the real estate industry should be higher. “I’d make obtaining a real estate license more stringent, maybe even require a junior degree,” he says. Joe’s all about raising the bar, making sure that the people in his industry are more than just part-timers who dabble in home sales. After all, real estate professionals should be just that—professionals. And elevating the standards can only help improve the industry’s reputation.
Now, being a Realtor® isn’t all work and no play. Joe enjoys the flexibility of making his schedule, which allows him time to hit the golf course, travel (both domestically and internationally), and even hit the slopes for some snow skiing. He’s a sports fan and loves concerts. When he’s not renovating homes or working on real estate deals, he’s got his nose in a book—mostly business and personal improvement. Still, the occasional novel helps him decompress too. He also enjoys spending time with his family and his first grandchild, where real happiness lies.
So, if you find yourself cruising around Clairemont, which is in Central San Diego, or Rancho Bernardo, or along the Pacific Coast and all points between, and thinking about buying or selling a home, Joe Post is the Realtor® who brings more to the table. He’s got the experience, the network, and the know-how to make your real estate journey successful and enjoyable. Plus, with Joe, you can rest easy knowing your home is the show’s real star.
