There isn’t a single country in the world without migrants. Moreover, there hasn’t been a period in human history when migration was absent as a phenomenon. Even when people did not know the most primitive means of transportation, they actively moved from one territory to another.
The reason is simple: the desire to survive. In the past, people traveled thousands of kilometers on foot, often searching for food and sustenance. They were not deterred by the fact that such a journey could take months or even years. They had no choice.
Other reasons included the search for water and a peaceful, safe place to live. The last point refers to times when people suffered from raids by barbarians and other enemies who could simply take their lives or the lives of their family members.
Of course, today, such motivations drive migration only in rare cases. The reasons people change their place of residence have evolved and become more modern. We all know them. There are three main reasons.
- Political. People who move to another country often seek a different political regime, avoiding imprisonment, repression, and other problems typical of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes.
- Economic. Here, it’s even simpler: migrants want to earn more. Their goal is to achieve a higher standard of living. In this context, it’s most logical to mention labor migration. People wish to do the same work but receive higher pay.
- Professional. People migrate to other countries because they see more opportunities to realize their professional potential. Athletes, scientists, doctors, engineers, programmers – this is far from a complete list of professionals who actively migrate across the world today.
The destination points for the majority of migrants are the same countries. These are mainly Europe and the USA. The reason is simple: these places offer the highest standard of living and opportunities for self-realization.
In this context, the USA holds a unique position. It is a “magnet” for migrants from around the globe. Reports suggest that migrants account for a significant share of the country’s population, with millions estimated to have moved to the USA from other countries. These numbers may not fully capture the total population.
In Germany, which ranks second in popularity, the number of migrants is significantly lower – 16 million.
The platform RusRek was the first to step in to help migrants. It began its work 30 years ago. The project is aimed not only at expats but also at companies working with such a target audience. Here’s what RusRek uses in its work.
RusRek Website
First, it is a source of information. Migrants can find the latest news about migration, crimes, medicine, and economics. In short, on a single site, people who have just moved to the USA can access all the information they need daily.
Second, the RusRek website is a communication platform. Migrants interact here, form interest groups, organize personal meetings, and find friends.
Moreover, the site simplifies ordering certain services: legal and logistics services, car and home repairs, etc. Expats find it much easier to do this here, as they avoid language barriers and cultural differences.
RusRek Radio Station
Here, migrants can also access the latest news about the USA and other countries, such as Israel, Spain, Germany, other European countries and states in the post-Soviet space.
Additionally, the RusRek radio station serves as a source of information about upcoming events of interest. For example, these could be festivals, concerts, exhibitions, etc. To plan their leisure time, a migrant simply needs to listen to one radio station, and that’s it!
The hosts also pay attention to the health of migrants. First, this includes physical health: expats learn about new treatment methods, preventive measures, and procedures.
Second, it concerns mental health: from time to time, radio hosts share interesting stories to help migrants relieve stress. These stories might include intriguing places and personalities and tourist locations in the USA.
Printed Edition
The RusRek newspaper is available at one of New York’s metro stations. Get helpful and relevant information while you’re on the go. Sounds great, right?
